-As a CRAU, Gyda comes from Riverview, a sci-fi setting game set on the moon. She's lived there just over a year before being given the choice of going to another world; it's there she ends up in the Sphere.
• OC world information:
• Abilities: Farming and animal husbandry, baking, cooking, weaving and sewing.
She has some intermediate skill in the sword and shield, her time in Riverview
honing these thanks to her half-brother Ivar to also include throwing knives and archery.
Gyda’s also double jointed in her shoulders and elbows, able to twist her arms in near completely 360 degrees.
• Strengths:
Empathy- Of her family, Gyda is the most open and connects herself easier with those she meets. When Athelstan is first introduced, it’s easy for her to see how lonely and torn he is to be there, and she lets him tell stories about his strange god because it cheers him up, even if she does tease him about it, it’s only to make him laugh. Nor does she protest Siggy and Thyri joining their family, even after the latter’s husband was the one to hunt them down. Deep down, Gyda wishes to help those in her home to feel welcomed and safe.
Fortitude-Though not a warrior and barely a teenager, Gyda still displays a silent courage that belies most children her age. When faced with the threat of being killed or captured, she rarely screams or cries out, but does what it takes to get to safety, and when forced to live in hiding in a small shack, she doesn’t complain or wish for home, but places faith in her family and the gods. Far from naive about death, sickness and pain, Gyda is old enough to know that fear makes things worse and to give in would be dishonorable in a family of warriors.
Insightful-A trait inherited from her father, Gyda has a sense of perceptiveness that is often overlooked. Learning to take care of home and hearth, she’s able to pick person’s traits and habits to know if they’re not well, and try to urge them to take care of themselves. Likewise, it’s very easy for her to pick on the emotional state of either a person or environment, either in mannerism or signs, however she may or may not remark on what she observes unless she believes it will make a difference.
• Weaknesses:
Inexperience-Even by the time standards, Gyda is still just reaching adulthood. While she’s able to take care of a household, she’s too young to take run it all by herself, especially one that doubles as a farmhouse or the household of an Earl. While she tells her uncle that she’s training to fight in the shieldwall, by her age she would’ve only been learning for two years, and being the only daughter, the pressure for her to learn to be a warrior is not nearly as great as it would be for her brother. Still training with Ivar in Riverview, she’s only just able to hold her own enough to get away and survive. All of which mean that Gyda is still too young to truly be on her own.
Stoicism-Perceptive and brave as she is, Gyda will only open up emotionally to close family or friends, and only if something is truly bothering her. Otherwise, she will keep her emotions to herself, not wishing to seem weak or wanting to bother others if there are more graver issues at play. Even more concerning is she will often downplay her own pain or illnesses, putting her at even more of a risk then she would if she were to get help of her own accord.
Dependence-While this goes with being a girl her age and in the time period, at no point has Gyda ever been separated from her family. Even in a culture that prefers sons and warriors, she was never made to feel inferior and always treasured and protected by her family, even her uncle, the berserker Rollo. She constantly worries about their safety and well being, even if she’s unable to do anything to help them. To be without them would leave her feeling lost, lonely and unsure of herself.
• Nightmares: Gyda’s greatest nightmare is being completely alone and without her family. While in Riverview, she’s had to experience this exact nightmare when Ivar left, leaving her completely without family for the first time in her life. Though she did have friends and a guardian, the fear never left her and left her feeling despondent for nearly the remainder of her time in Riverview.
In going with this fear, Gyda also has the nightmare of anything happening to her family. Though she’s close to Ivar as a brother, she’s no stranger to his methods or sadism, and knows what Lagertha did to his mother. Her deep fear is facing the terror of what might happen if he were to accomplish his vengeance infront of her.
